We're planning. Planning for post Covid, when we can move around and gather again. We had to postpone a few things because of the pandemic, but we have big plans for 2021 and one item on our agenda is an UP writers retreat at Trinity College, Oxford.

Yes, it’s a writing and thinking and exploratory retreat. It will take place in England’s most beautiful city, in one of Oxford’s most beautiful colleges. There’ll be time to savour the dreaming spires, the medieval architecture, the languid river and the splendid gardens. But it’ll also be intense. Oxford has been the nation’s intellectual powerhouse for over 900 years and during the two days we’re there we’ll bury ourselves in that palpable atmosphere of study to go on an adventure in writing. You may, like Alice, even go through the looking glass!

The retreat will be structured, with a tour of the College, research forays into some of the University’s imitable museums, and two half-day immersive workshops that will revolve around writing exercises, which participants will tackle both individually and in groups. But more than anything it will be creative, fun and sociable. And the food’s top notch (Trinity currently leads the University’s cuisine league!) Breakfast and lunch will be in Hall and dinner in the College’s Senior Common Room. An after dinner visit to one or two of the town’s quintessentially English pubs is recommended to round off each day.

The retreat has been specially designed by, and will be led by UP Member, Stuart Delves. Stuart is a leading writing animateur in the world of business writing. He co-founded Dark Angels (creative writing for business) in 2004 and Invisible Grail (the power of narrative in Higher Education) in 2017. He joined UP as Senior Writer in November 2019. Stuart has previously led Dark Angels Master Classes at Merton College, Oxford. He will be delighted to welcome UP writers at his old alma mater.
