Filmed interviews are a great way to add visual interest to a website, presentation or sales material, as well as to get information across to your audience quickly. Interviews can help showcase your internal experts or align your business with important industry thought-leaders. And they typically don’t require a huge production budget to do successfully.

Whether you're filming an interview in a studio or on top of a mountain, and whether you are interviewing your company’s CEO or a “man on the street”, there are several tips that can help your videos have more impact.

As a video and film production expert with many years of experience filming around the world, I have compiled a list of my top five tips for better better interviews, which I have, of course, presented in a video.

My top five tips for getting better results from interviews include:

  1. Have a consistent eyeline.
  2. Leave editing space before and after interview takes.
  3. Keep it short.
  4. Get a reaction.
  5. Find your zen.
